What I may need to consider if I am successful with bidding

Published: Friday 24 June 2022

When you have successfully bid on a property, all housing associations will require rent in advance when signing a new tenancy.

The amount required for a particular property will be on the property advert.

You may be able to apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment to help towards rent in advance, but only if you receive housing costs through Universal Credit or Housing Benefit at the time of application.  The link to apply is below:

You may be eligible to apply for a Budgeting advance if you are in receipt of Universal Credit, even if you do not have existing housing costs:

Below is a list of things to consider when moving:

• Removal costs

• White goods (fridge/freezers/washing machine/cooker/microwave)

• Furniture

• Flooring

• Curtains/blinds

• Bins (new build properties)

New scheme to open up home ownership

Published: Thursday 10 February 2022

Residents looking to get onto the housing ladder will be given a helping hand as part of a new affordable housing scheme.

First Homes is a new government scheme designed to support local first time buyers to buy a new property which is discounted by at least 30% of open market value, up to £250,000.

An interim eligibility criteria gives priority to local residents and key workers in the borough and will be in place until a new policy is introduced as part of the borough’s Local Plan update.

Work is now under way to develop a new Low Cost Housing Register to enable residents to register their interest and be made aware of new low cost home ownership opportunities, including when First Homes become available within new developments in the borough.

EU Settlement Scheme – Deadline for applications 30 June 2021

Published: Wednesday 9 June 2021

If you are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who was resident in the UK by 31 December 2020, you and your family members (including children and non-EU citizens) need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK beyond 30 June 2021.

You still need to apply to the EU Settlement scheme even if you:

Children will need their own applications. When you apply for your child you can ‘link’ their application to yours. This means that if your own application is successful, your child will get the same status as you.

You can apply online for the EU Settlement Scheme.

Further information, including where to get help with an application, can be found on the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council website.

If you do not apply by 30 June 2021, you can lose the right to live and work in the UK.
